Phillip W. Smith was born in Kernersville, NC where he attended   Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Carver Sr. High School.  He   attended and graduated from Rowan Community College, NC. Additional studies   were pursued as an undergraduate student at A&T State University majoring   in Business Administration.Bishop   Smith served three years in the US Army and completed a tour of duty in   Vietnam as a warrant officer.  He also spent several years in the US   Army Reserves where he served as a Warrant Officer and an advisor to the   reserve components.Bishop worked for the Civil Service Commission from   1970-1979, and was employed with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a   District Sales Manager.  He is now employed with the Employment Security   Commission in Raleigh as Chief of Employer   Compliance.      More than 20 years ago, he joined Trinity Presbyterian Church in   Salisbury where he was very active, serving on the trustee board, as well as   other capacities.  In 1994, he became a member of Cary First United   Church of Christ and served in various capacities, i.e., Deacon, Director of   the Food Pantry, Youth Ministry Team, Finance Team, and the Men’s   Chorus.  In addition to this, he taught Bible School and other   studies.  After his call into the ministry in 1996, he worked very   diligently as a member of the Clergy Team. He later studied at Shaw   Divinity School and Apex Academy School of Religion. In July of 1998,   Rev. Smith founded Greater Cary Christian Fellowship. He was ordained to the   order of Bishop on December 3, 2006 to continue in the expanded vision   to  train and provide spiritual covering for other pastors and clerics.   As God would continue to bestow favor upon him, August 17th 2008 he received   an Honorary Doctorate degree from NPower Theologian Seminary.Dr. Smith  was married  Angela Burnette Smith   on October 9,1986.  To this union God has blessed them with two   children, Lauren Dalise and Darren Christian Smith. He is also the father of   Yolanda Smith Merritt. Yolonda and her husband David Lee Merritt   have blessed the Bishop with 4 grandchildren- David Lee Jr., Devin   Leith, Dawson Luke and Dreyah Leigh.
